A big day for Round Towers G.A.A in Hawkfield saw the clubs senior ladies take on Ellistown in the Junior C Final. Just a year ago our Senior ladies came up a little short in the same fixture and the ladies were out to ensure there were no regrets this time. However, a strong start by Ellistown saw them lead by 1-1 to no score after 4 minutes. The experience the ladies have gained over the last few years ensured they didn’t panic and we quickly responded with 1-1 of our own with a goal from Emma Hannon and a point from Leah Hayes. The Tower ladies then began to grow into the game kicking 4 unanswered point before Jackie Kelly broke through and scored a second goal. Towers continued to keep the score board ticking over and went in at half time 3-8 to 1-3 up.

Ellistown lost their centre back to a yellow card and after the interval the Towers ladies took full advantage kicking 1-6 in her absence. Ellistown, to their credit never gave up despite some set backs and showed why they deserved to be in the final kicking a few points of their own. Towers dominance continued with a further an array of points from various players and 2 goals from Emma Hannon and Jackie Kelly before the end. Towers ran out deserved winners on a scoreline of 5-18 to 1-6 and while this was an impressive haul the scoreline didn't reflect the competitive nature of this fixture that was filled with passion, skill and commitment from every player on both sides. The victory ensured the Round Towers Ladies made club history in the club being the first team to a win a league and championship in the same year.
