Captained by Sorcha Whelan, Maynooth played against the wind in the first half. Both teams started off strongly but with the wind playing havoc with the Maynooth kicks, Raheens piled on the pressure. With a strong midfield and half forward line, Raheens managed to break down the Maynooth defence taking some well executed points from play. A resilient Maynooth steadied and before long had some well delivered goals on the scoreline. By half time Maynooth had opened up a significant lead.
A resurgent Raheens managed to break down the Maynooth defence with the full back line and goalie clearing balls under pressure. Raheens battled hard with well timed tackling and intercepts to win and retain significant possession of the ball involving skilful hand and kick-passing. However Maynooth were unforgiving winning many kickouts and converting with the wind at their back. In the end, Maynooth carried the day. The scoreline did not reflect the effort that Raheens made on the pitch.
Thanks to Raheens for an entertaining and enjoyable match.
