An injury time goal from John Gallagher saw Mayo Gaels grab a late win against Parke in the first round of the Division 2 league which was played in Claremorris on Sunday the 13thof March.
This was a hard fought and evenly contested game. The Gaels were the dominant team in the first quarter however sustained Parke pressure yielded two goals just before the break to leave the black and amber two points ahead at halftime (1:06 to 1:04).
The teams were level entering the final quarter however, with Mayo Gaels tiring, Parke wasted several good scoring opportunities and should have had more than a two point lead when entering the final minutes. The Gaels lads laid siege to the Parke goal in the closing seconds and their efforts were awarded when an inrushing John Gallagher blasted the ball through a crowded goalmouth for the match winning score.
The U16’s play Naomh Padraig in the second round of the League in Ballycastle next Sunday morning, the 20th of March at 11.00am.
