Mayor's Awards 2013

November 8, 2018

The Galway City Mayor's Awards honour individuals & groups who help in a voluntary capacity in the city's community life.

Cliona Kennedy has made a huge contribution to Greenfields Hockey Club over the past few decades, her mother being a founder member of the club in the 1970s. Cliona has been Youth Co-Ordinator for many years and has coached the U12 section every Saturday afternoon.

This season Cliona has travelled to various venues around the country with different age groups. She organised an U12 blitz in Galway for Connacht clubs as well as an U14 blitz, both on separate occasions.  As well as on the pitch Cliona is kept busy off the pitch. As a member on the club’s fundraising committee, she has just helped organise a table quiz, bag packing and continuously promotes the clubs lotto.

Over the last number of year Cliona, a past player and Club Captain, has taken on the role of President, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Club. She has also been Treasurer and Secretary of The Connacht Hockey Branch.

A true volunteer, Cliona was a deserving nominee for the 2013 Mayor's Awards.
