MFL: Clonmore 1-11 Burrin Rangers 0-15

November 8, 2018

Clonmore started this game on fire and led by 0-4 to no score after 10 minutes but then kicked several wides and only led by 0-6 to 0-5 at half-time, our points coming from Dale McNamara (3) and Conor McCarney (3).

We opened the second half well and, thanks to a fine goal by the lively Adam Byrne, led by 1-6 to 0-6 early in the half. But the better balanced Rangers side started to cause problems for the Clonmore backline and we had stand-in goalkeeper, Gary Byrne, to thank for a string of fine saves. We held the lead until the 52nd minute when Rangers equalised and then went two points ahead with time running out. Clonmore had a few late attacks but only managed one point to leave the minimum between the teams at the final whistle.

A disappointing result but this was a spirited performance by the 15 lads who turned up and made sure we didn’t have to give a walkover, with four players missing for various reasons. Some of our players were very young and it was a big step up for them to play against a team who have the pick of three clubs.

Thanks to Damien Lyons for reffing the game, after the appointed Referee failed to turn up for the second Minor C’ship game in a row.
