Midleton 22 - 0 Corinthians

November 7, 2018

Corinthians travelled to Middleton on Saturday as third division leagues leaders but came up against a very solid Cork side.  The game was played in atrocious conditions with the home side winning the toss up and choosing to play with a gale behind them in the first half.  Veteran Jason Holland for Middleton really showed his class by chipping the ball behind the Corinthian backline fifteen minutes into the half which offered winger Junior Sifa the chance to run on and collect same to touch down under the post, with Jeff Hichmough converting.  The visitors were further put under pressure after a block down by centre Keith Cocking who gathered the ball and ran for a good try which was converted again by Jeff Hitchmough.  Try as they might Corinthians were unable to get out of their half and conceded a penalty just before halftime which was converted by Jeff Hitchmough leaving the score 17 points to nil in Middletons favour. The visitors started the second half with plenty of ball in hand, driving the home side back but despite all the pressure Corinthians were unable to get over for a score.  The home side defence was very dogged and eventually they broke out to score another try by wing forward John O’Neill.  The game ended with Middleton ending up winners by 22 to nil.  For Corinthians all is not as lost they are only one point behind the leaders Queens with their next home game on Saturday 24th against Suttonians.
