Minor Footballers
The minors made their exit from the county championship after a gallant display against a very determined Golden Kilfeacle team. The game was played in dreadful weather conditions of wind and rain. Having played against the strong wind, they found themselves just one point down at the interval, thanks to a goal scored at the 20th minute. Both teams were evenly matched. At the start of the 2nd half Golden Kilfeacle despite playing against the wind took the game to Ballina and were unlucky not to score 2 goals, thanks to magnificant saves from the Ballina defence. Ballina scored only one point in the 2nd half from Stephen O Brien, who was unlucky to miss a penalty in the 20th minute.
With the game on a knife edge with just one point seperating the teams, Golden Kilfeacle scored a goal against the run of play, which proved to be the turning point of the game. Ballina fought to the finish
but found the Golden Kilfeacle defence hard to penetrate. The club would like to thank Brendan Ryan and his fellow selectors on the great work done on this team, on winning the North Final, and were just a whisker away from reaching a county final.
