Minor Season Review for 2007
Our Minor team lined out in Division 1 for 2007, despite the majority of the same side having played at U-16 in Division 2. Therefore the aim at the start of the year was to hold our own in the division. This was achieved with a number of very credible performances. At the end of the league campaign, the young Stars had achieved three victories, one draw & five defeats. Not enough to make the play-offs, but a very commendable achievement nonetheless.
In the championship, we had a home tie in the quarter-final against Trinity Gaels (Drung, Kill & Cootehill) and after a poor start we battled back bravely and a late Dara Martin goal sealed a 1-9 to 0-7 victory. In the semi-final, we came up against the perennial Minor kingpins of Cavan Gaels, and despite an encouraging start and a resilient display to the end, we just didn’t have enough against a Gaels side that steamrollered most opposition it met this year.
Overall, we had a reasonably good season as this is a very young side with a lot of our U-16 team playing represented. With 15 of this year’s squad available in 2008, hopes are high that the further progress can be achieved.
