Minors suffer heavy defeat

November 8, 2018

Edenderry minors shipped a hefty twelve point beating on Sunday morning at home to Na Fianna and will need to up their performance for the remainder of the league campaign. Despite a good first half, the reds fell asunder in the second half and real lacked that cutting edge in front of goal.

Na Fianna opened the scoring after one minute but it was quickly cancelled out by an Alex Kenny point after a good pass from Mikie Clear. Na Fianna again took the lead with points in the fifth and eleventh minute but Matthew O’Grady reduced the deficit in the twelfth minute.

Five minutes later Na Fianna restored their two point lead but points from Jamie Dolan(free) and Alex Kenny leveled the game with six minutes remaining the first half. This was the last time the sides were level and three late points in the first half gave Na Fianna a three point cushion at the interval.

Half Time:
Edenderry 0-4 0-7 Na Fianna

Na Fianna started the second half the stronger and the game was practically over as a contest after eleven minutes when they had scored 1-2 to no reply. Mikie Clear did grab a goal for the reds in the thirteenth minute and a Matthew O’Grady point in the fifteenth left four points between the sides.

However, Na Fianna hit back with 2-2 and ended any hope of a comeback and the resigned to their first defeat of 2012.

This was a bad defeat for Edenderry but with the St Mary’s men still to return the team will get stronger.
