November 7, 2018

The programme of events for the upcoming Weekend of Welcomes that will take place throughout our parish on the October Bank Holiday Weekend has been announced.

The weekend will get underway on the evening of Thursday 24th October in Barna.  A Welcome Reception will get underway at 7.30pm and the reunited Barna Ceili & Country Follk Band will provide musicial entertainment into the night.

Moneygall village will be at the centre of proceedings on Friday 25th.  Heritage Trails will leave from Obama Cafe from 3.30pm.  That evening the Bi-Centenary of St Joseph’s Church will be marked with a mass celebrated by Bishop Kieran O’Reilly at 7.30pm.  Mass will be followed by a Tea & Coffee Reception in Legion Hall, and later on Ollie’s Bar will host a Traditional Irish Music Night, with conversation and chats in Julia’s.

On Saturday 26th the spotlight moves to Dunkerrin village, with the day’s events getting underway at midday with Old Time Market Stalls at The Arches.  Also on display will be food stalls, vintage motors, high nellies, horse and traps, picture displays and art exhibitions.  The Church of Ireland will host a Harvest Display, while there will also be Family History Advice, talks of times gone by, and street music.  Heritage Trails will leave from Byrne’s Shop at 2.30pm.  That evening Dunkerrin Church will hold a Youth Folk Mass at 7.30pm, and later on entertainment will be provided in Delaney’s Bar with music, song, dance and story-telling.

Moneygall GAA Club will host the events on Sunday 27th, when Moneygall will play Templederry Kenyons in a hurling challenge match at 1.30pm.  This will be a re-enactment of the first match on record in our club history, when a team from Killeen came to play The Honeymounts in November 1887.  The match will be followed by a Pig & Porter BBQ in St. Flannan’s Park at 3pm.  At 6.30pm Templeharry Church will hold an Ecumenical Harvest Service.  Then on Sunday night the GAA Club will host a Social Dancing night in Dunkerrin Community Centre at 9pm.  Tickets for the dance will be on sale for €10 each and music will be by Midnight Dynamo
