Moydow Harpers Vs Kenagh in Intermediate Championship - Match Report

November 7, 2018

Kenagh 0-11       Moydow Harpers 1-08

Moydow Harpers finished their 2014 Intermediate Championship campaign with a draw against neighbouring rivals Kenagh on Friday evening last.

As both teams were out of contention for a place in the Intermediate Championship semi -finals, only pride was at stake in this final round.

Kenagh started as favourites following their comprehensive defeat of the Harpers in the league a few weeks earlier, but Moydow appeared up for the battle and started brightly. Both sides traded scores in the early stages before the Harpers stretched ahead with an opportunist goal from Niall Keenan from his newly assigned full forward position. Kenaghs Shane Doyle was well marshalled by the tight marking Fergal Keenan although some gamesmanship from the Kenagh forward lead to a couple of handy frees to keep his side in contention.

Half way through the first half, Moydow were dealt a blow when David Tiernan was harshly shown a black card following a mis-timed tackle. Moydow however, regrouped and finished the half strong to go in at the break leading by a point.

Half Time:        Kenagh 0-04       Moydow Harpers 1-02

A rejuvenated Moydow started the second half on the front foot and raced into a 4 point lead in the opening 10 minutes. An injury to Mark Quinn mid-way through the half upset the Harpers momentum and Kenagh clawed their way back into the game with some well taken points.

The last 10 minutes was a tense affair with both teams trading points. Good scores from Paul Stuart and Mark Quinn edged the Harpers into the lead but Kenagh quickly responded to level matters with time running out.

A bad injury to Paul Stuart towards the end of the half marred proceedings but hopefully the prognosis is not too serious and Paul has a speedy recovery.

The game finished up all square in the end, which completes both teams involvement in the Intermediate Championship for 2014.
