Moydow Harpers 2-12 Sean Connollys 2-02
It was a different Harpers team who showed up this week and they looked determined to right the wrongs of last week. The game started with Moydow playing with the advantage of the breeze and they soon capitalised on this with some early points from the boot of the unerring Paul Stuart.
In the first half the Harpers dominated possession with excellent work from the Keenan brothers (Conor and Niall) at midfield creating the link between defence and attack. The defence was in excellent form too, limiting the Sean Connolly’s attack to a single score in the first half. Tough tackling and vital interceptions from the entire back five sucked the life out of the opposing forwards.
Upfront, Keelan Dowd, Brendan Conway and the aforementioned Paul Stuart were a constant pain in the Connolly’s defence.
Half Time: Moydow Harpers 0-07 Sean Connollys 0-01
The second half started like the first half ended with Moydow in the supremacy. Fresh legs were introduced through Trevor Higgins and Philip McDermott and this helped Moydow thwart any dying sting from the visitors.
The Harpers continued to exert pressure in attack with further points from Paul Stuart (8 in all), Keelan Dowd, Philip McDermott & Conor Keenan. In addition, they eventually scored their first goals of the season through Conor Keenan and Trevor Higgins to put the result well and truly beyond doubt.
Connollys never give up, however, and caught the Harpers on the break, late on in the game to finish with 2-02.
In general, this was a good team performance from the Harpers with everyone contributing to the end result. The reserve league takes a break for 2 weeks now and Division 2 kicks in. Next up for the Harpers is our first Division 2 fixture of the season against Kenagh in Moydow next Saturday at 5pm. All support would be appreciated.
