NAAS ARE 2017 MINOR LEAGUE WINNERS

MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIV. 1 FINAL (REPLAY)

NAAS    3  –  14           CARBURY      2  –  16

What a thriller, its games like this that make you realise how defensive football has ruined the game. Both team had nothing on their mind only victory and they gave it their all. Naas were single point winners and in doing so they bridged a thirty year gap since they last won this competition..

Carbury were first on the scoreboard with four unanswered points from Jack Cully, Brian Milmoe, Mark Cully and Ollie Gill in the opening eight minutes. In the twelfth Naas had two goals in a minute from Dallen Gallagher and Colm Joyce   to take a two point lead. A Gallagher point was followed by points from Darragh Kirwan and Keith O’Connor, Jack Cully replied with a Carbury point . Naas led by four.

 Carbury were level in the 25th minute with points from Ciaran McKeon(2), Ger Cunningham and Gary Redmond. Naas responded with three points from Adam Cronin,  Dallen Gallagher and Keith O’Connor. Redmond and Gallagher swapped points just before the break. At half time Naas were still ahead 2 – 7 to 0 – 10. Just before the interval Naas were reduced to fourteen men when one of their team received two yellow cards.

Carbury dominated the first ten minutes of the second half and went two points clear 1 – 13 to 2 – 8 with a Ciaran McKeon goal and points from Jack Cully, Ger Cunningham and Gary Redmond. Naas dominated the next ten minutes with an Adam Cronin “45”, a goal from Keith O’Connor and points from Darragh Kirwan and Colm Joyce.

 Redmond and Gallagher traded points before Paddy McDermott and Dallen Gallagher put Naas six ahead 3 – 14 to 1 – 14 with nine minutes left. Carbury responded with points from Jack Cully and Ciaran McKeon and a Ger Cunningham goal leaving one between them. The Naas defence withstood a barrage from the Carbury forwards in the closing minutes for a one point victory.
