Neven Maguire

NEVEN MAGUIRE –

Still in his thirties, award-winning chef Neven Maguire began cooking at 12 years of age in the kitchen of the family restaurant, MacNean’s in Blacklion, Co. Cavan. In 2003, Neven took over the business as Head Chef and Proprietor of the greatly expanded MacNean House & Restaurant.

 

Having achieved top audience figures on RTE 1, Neven’s recent TV series, ‘Neven’s Food from the Sun’, will be broadcast on UKTV Food from September 09 and on New Zealand TV.

 

Neven is currently working on a new book and TV series called ‘Home Chef’. The book, Neven’s 6th, will be published later this year and the series broadcast on RTE 1 next year.

 

Neven has also been appointed by An Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan T. D, to the Advisory Board for Safe-Food, the cross border Food Safety Promotion Board.

 

Experience

 

After graduating from college, Neven gained experience in Michelin starred restaurants across Europe, including:

 

  • Roscoff Restaurant, Belfast, Northern Ireland      (1 Michelin Star)
  • The Grand Hotel Restaurant, Berlin, Germany     (2 Michelin Stars)
  • Lea Linster Restaurant, Luxembourg                  (2 Michelin Stars)
  • Arzac Restaurant, San Sebastian, Spain              (3 Michelin Stars)

Neven has achieved many prestigious Awards, both for his culinary expertise and his work at MacNean House and Restaurant, including:

 

         Irish Restaurant Awards 2009, Neven awarded ‘Best Chef’ and ‘Celebrity Chef’ with ‘Best Restaurant’ and ‘Best Customer Service’ awards presented to MacNean House & Restaurant

 

         Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Award for Fine Dining (2008)

 

         Food & Wine’s ‘Restaurant of the Year’ Award 2008, ‘Ulster Best Restaurant’ Award 2008, 2004, 2003, 2002 and ‘Ulster Best Chef’ Award 2008, 2007, 2004

 

         Georgina Campbell’s Restaurant of the Year Award 2007

 

         Special Award for Culinary Achievements and Tourism Promotion from Cavan County Council 2007

Television & Radio Appearances

 

Neven contributes a regular feature to RTE Radio 1’s Marian Finucane show and writes a weekly column and recipe feature in the Irish Farmers Journal. He has also made TV appearances on Tubridy Tonight, the Late Late Show, Nationwide, Podge & Rodge and The Restaurant.

 

Neven was Resident Chef on RTE’s ‘Open House’ TV series from 1998 until the programme finished in 2004. He has also featured in a number of other high profile TV programmes including –
