Davitts intermediate team retained the Prendergast Cup on Saturday evening, when they defeated Ballyhaunis, 0-10 to 0-9, in a very closely fought encounter in the beautifully appointed Ballyhaunis pitch. Points by captain Paul Carey (2), the lively Aidan McTigue (2) and Liam Kearns, had Davitts ahead, 0-5 to 0-4 at half time, in a pretty lethargic first half.
Things improved drastically in the second half, with the exchanges getting heated on several occasions, and Ballyhaunis will count themselves very unlucky not to have at least got a draw, but two late points by Carey and McTigue swung the balance in Davitts favour. Davitts best performers were Frankie Barrett at full back, Tommy Nolan, Colm Boyle, Dave McDonagh, Seamus and Colm Roche, Paul Carey, Aidan McTigue and Fergal McGrath.
