Quarter-Final pairings in Offaly Hurling Chamionships

November 8, 2018

The quarter-finals will be played in a fortnight’s time and they are: Birr v Tullamore; Coolderry v Shinrone; St Rynagh’s v Kinnitty; Kilcormac/ Killoughey v Seir Kieran.

Even before a ball was pucked in the final round, seven clubs had booked their places in the quarter-finals. It was also known that with four wins out of four, Birr and Coolderry would top their respective groups.

The only game of significance, therefore, was the Group 1 tie between reigning champions Tullamore and last year’s Intermediate champions, Brosna Gaels, at O’Connor Park.

Brosna Gaels remained in contention until well into the second half, but a Shane Dooley goal gave the momentum to ‘The Blues’ and they progressed to 1-14 to 1-9.

Elsewhere, the results were: Birr 2-12, Shinrone 1-12; Kilcormac/ Killoughey 3-16, Shamrocks 2-10, Belmont 1-12, Kinnitty 0-13; Coolderry 1-16, Seir Kieran 0-15.

Meanwhile, the quarter-final pairings in the Aidan Bracken Building Design Intermediate Hurling Championship have also been finalised following the final round of group games on Friday evening. They are as follows: Birr v Drumcullen; Ballinamere v Coolderry; Kilcormac/ Killoughey v Killurin; Clara v St Rynagh’s.

Also on Saturday, Brosna Gaels qualified for the final of the Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship with a 3-8 to 3-6 defeat of Gracefield. The other semi-final ended level: Coolderry 1-13, Lusmagh 3-7.
