Mark Quigley has been named on the Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland (PFAI) Premier Division Team of the Year while he is also one of six nominees for PFAI Player of the Year.
The news is reward for a fabulous year at Dundalk where he became the first top-flight player at the club to score over 20 goals since Turlough O’Connor in the 1971/72 season.
The 26-year-old appeared in 48 of the side’s 50 competitive games, and was joint-top scorer in the Setanta Sports Cup with five goals, alongside Cliftonville’s George McMullan, as Dundalk made it to their first cup final in nine years.
Quigley, who netted a total of 21 goals, has already been rewarded at club level after picking up Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Away Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer at the End of Year Awards on 21 October.
The PFAI and Tissot announced the nominees for the PFAI Player of the Year Awards at a press briefing in Malahide on Monday.
The prestigious Tissot sponsored PFAI Awards will take place next Saturday, 12 November at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.
The nominations for the Players’ Player of the Year, First Division Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Irish Overseas Player of the Year, and Referee of the Year, along with the Premier Division and First Division Teams of the Year, as voted for by the League of Ireland players, were all announced.
Daniel Kearns missed out on a nomination for Young Player of the Year, where Daniel Lafferty and Enda Stevens were joined by James McClean, who left for Sunderland in midseason, on the shortlist of three.
