Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann Teoranta/ Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen and Women (ONE) is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Its main objective is to ensure the welfare of ex-servicemen and women by way of providing accommodation to homeless, elderly or disabled members in need of such domestic accommodation and shelter and other assistance that may be required. We also aim to develop a spirit of comradeship between serving and retired members of the services, as well as providing key information in the area of pensions, social welfare benefits and other entitlements.
While It is acknowledged that all members have the right to protest as individual citizens. We must emphasise that as an organisation ONE cannot get involved in political protests such as the Water Charges protest march on the 10th December. ONE may advocate only on behalf of its objectives as set down in the company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association. Therefore it is not appropriate for members to attempt to represent ONE by wearing ONE uniforms or organisation logos/medals on this or similar marches as to do so may affect the charitable status of ONE.
