Recent Club Beareavements

Deepest sympathy to our esteemed life member (and senior team sponsor) Conor on the death of his mother Rachel who passed away peacefully in hospital following a short illness on Thursday 8th May 2008. Our sympathy also to her sons and former players Sean, Mark, and Paul and to Rachel’s daughters Anne, Rosemary, Louise, Francis,and Helen daughters in law, sons in law, grandchildren and entire family cirle.

The death occurred on Tuesday 6th May of former Castlewellan footballer Patsy who Owens who passed away at his home in Belfast after a long illness. Patsy who was an uncle of club life member Kevan Owens was a long serving member of Bredagh GFC. Originally from the Liatroim Fontenoys club, Patsy moved to Belfast and joined Bredagh when it was formed in October 1971.A dual player Patsy was involved with sveral clubs- (Newcastle 1953-1957- Castlewellan 1957-1960, Bryansford 1960-1966 and Kilkeel huling Club 1957-1965 before living and joining Bredagh.

The Committee and Members of St Malachy’s GAC deeply regret the death of their former player and Hall of Fame recipient Frank Lennon who passed away peacefully at his home in Commedagh Park Castlewellan at the ripe old age of 99 years of age just seven months short of reaching 100. Our deepest sympathy to his wife Bridie and surviving sons Brian, Frank, Seamus, Joseph and laurence, his daughters in laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and entire family circle. Frank was predeceased by his third son Pat who also played senior football for the St Malachy’s club in the late 1960’s. Frank won two Down SFC winners medals with the Town in 1934 and 1936.

 

The committee and members of St Malachy’s GAC regret the death of Lily Burns of Circular Road Castlewellan who passed away on Tuesday 30th May. Our deepest sympathy to her son Larry Life Member, and to all her family circle.
