At Rathcormac on Saturday we faced Blackrock in the Senior Hurling League Round 2. This was a cracker of a game with some top class hurling and in my opinion one of the best points ever scored. The Rockies were the strongest at the start and were quickly into their stride. They led by 2-5 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes and looked very good. In fairness to our lads the defence tightened up and the points began to come. By half time we were just 4 points in arrears. The second half was productive of some superb hurling. With Jerome and Barry Johnson in top point scoring form we soon whittled away the Blackrock lead. Barry Johnson blasted the sliotar to the net for a penalty and we were ahead. Both teams traded points for most of the second half. The point I mentioned was a classic. Sean Ryan in a half forward position ran out, collected the sliotar and near the sideline he turned and struck the sliotar while turning – over the bar – simply poetry in motion. We were in a five point lead with five minutes to go. Back came Blackrock with 3 points. They sought an equalizer but our backs held firm. Before the game the Rockies said they were missing 4 or 5 players, afterwards it was 6 or 9. However strong Blackrock were this was a good win for our lads and it was great to see that traditional spirit and determination. Final Score Bride Rovers 1-15 Blackrock 2-11.
