Sarsfields V LeixlipRd 4 SFL Div 1
It was a blustery evening in Sarsfields Park as Leixlip werethe visiting team for Rd 4 of the SFL Div 1. Leixlip kicked into the strongbreeze in the first half and it was the home side who opened the scoring with apoint from Ronan Fitzgibbon after a good passage of play including MidfielderSean Cambell and Centre half forward Ray Cahill. It was Ray Cahill then who putup Sarsfields Second point from a free after been fouled close in on goal.Leixlip were struggling against the breeze and the next ten minutes saw thehome side take a 0-5 to 0-1 lead with points from D. McKenna, J. Gerathty and Ciarán McInerneyAspell.
Chances for Leixlip were proven difficult and it was theirfull foward E. Murphy who was doing their scoring as he popped over a free inthe 28th min to which Sarsfields replied with a second point forRonan Fitzgibbon to leave the scores at half time 0-7 to 0-2 in favour ofSarsfields.
In the second half of the match with the breeze favouringthe Visitors, Sarsfields had a lot more work to do in defence as Leixlip camefoward. E. Murphy kicked a good point and he was proven difficult forSarsfields to handle. Leixlip squandered some good chances over the next ten Minand now half way through the second half the score was 0-9 to 0-4 as Ray Cahillhad kicked over two more frees. The last quarter of the game didn’t turn out tobe as comfortable for Sarsfield as it was looking when once again the LeixlipFull Forward put over 2 points one from play and the other from a well struck45. Sarsfields made a change and brought on Mattie Byrne in to the midfield andhe made a good impact on the game by winning some good ball in the middle, andkicking a good point from play. Then came a late Surge from Leixlip with apoint from corner forward M. French, and then a good passing move which saw E.Murphy hit the back of the net to now leave just one point between the teamsand 1 minute left on the clock.
