Fundraising Event for; Relay For Life

The Relay for Life Table Quiz was a great success and the club would like to thank all those who made the effort and came along and supported the event. Also we would like to thank all who sponsored prizes and gave donations for the cause.

Well done to our Secretary Liam Moore who done great work in getting the event organised. We can now look forward to the big event itself which is laid out below and once again hope we get great support from all.

CONQUER CANCER — RELAY FOR LIFE — CANDLE OF HOPE–

PATRON ; DERMOT EARLEY

Relay for Life Kildare takes place on September 5th. and 6th. at The Curragh Race Course. Sarsfields GAA Club is organising teams in memory of members lost to cancer and to honour members who are survivors. After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Candle of Hope Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags of sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants walk a lap in silence.

At Relay For Life the VIPs are those people who have been diagnosed with cancer and have survived it in the past or are fighting it right now. As with all events, we need volunteers to help make the event a success. If you can give us any amount of your time either before or during the event (or both), we would love to hear from you. Please email your contact details to Liam at sashsec14@gmail.com.

Kildare Cul Camp  Sarsfields hosted their Kellogs Cul Camp from Monday 28/07/14 to Friday 01/08/14 and to say the least it was a great success. In total there was 148 kids that attended the camp which was well up on last years number of 89 kids.

It takes a lot of organisation to run the camp which caters for kids from 5yrs to 12 years, so well done to Frank Hanniffy for his hard work in ensuring the camp was a success for all.  Working along side Frank was Donnacha McDonnell, Meabhdh O’Sullivan, David Hyland, John Merrins, Makela McKenna, Tom Kinsella and Amber Masterson.

During the week the kids were treated to a visit from Tomás O’Connor who as you can imagine was bombarded with plenty of questions and fair Play to Tomás he got through them all and left with a cramp in his hand from signing all the boots!

If there is one thing that you need when running these camps is the good weather and for the week that was in it the kids couldn’t have asked for better and no doubt there was a few extra freckles on the faces at the end of the camp.

What we need, Boots (all sizes), Helmets, any O’Neills gear, Jerseys, Hoodies etc. Any Monies made from this will be used to buy training gear for the club. I will start to collect on Saturday morn coming 29th Mar, so if you are attending the Academy or you can call in with some used gear please leave it in the shop. Cumann Na Sáirseálach  On Saturday 1st March the club launched its new fund raising Initiative which is known as Cumann na Sáirsealach. The idea behind this Fundraising Project is to try and improve the Facilities of the club especially in areas such as the upkeep of pitches, Training equipment for our underage level , ie. Sets of Goals, Footballs, cones etc. Along with this it is also the aim of Cumann Ná Sáirseálach to build Dressing rooms at the Pitch 2 and 3 end of the grounds, this is something that is badly needed to improve our ability to host matches due to the large number of teams in the club. (Last year we had 37 teams competed at all levels). The Club has now received Planning Permission to carry out this project. To date Cumann Ná Sairsealach has funded the New ball stop nets on the main pitch and on pitch 3. It has also contributed to the sanding which has recently taken place on the pitches and will improve the playing surface, and also to training equipment for underage.

All the info on this can be found on the web site www.sarsfieldsgaanewbridge.ie This is a great opportunity to support your club and help us to develop it more for the future.
