Death Of Sarsfields Legend, Tommy O’Hanlon.
It was with great sadness that we learned on Sunday of the death of Tommy O’Hanlon a football legend with both Sarsfields and Kildare. Tommy won five senior championships with Sarsfields 1945,47, and played on the great Sarsfields team that won three championship in a row, 1950, 51 and 52 and was captain of the that team in 1952. One of his great memories was playing on the Sarsfields team that defeated the Army team in 1947 that was captioned by the late John Joe Reilly of Cavan. He also played in the the 1947 Leinster Final  against Laois. At the end of his illustrious football career Tommy served his beloved Sarsfields and Kildare in administrative positions for many years holding the positions of Chairman, Secretary, treasurer and President of the club and was also County Secretary and until his recent illness used to help out with the Lotto every Monday night. Tommy also was involved in managing and selecting many Sarsfields teams from senior down throughout his long association with Sarsfields. Sarsfields extends deepest sympathy to the O’Hanlon family; to his brother Con his sister Tessie, his sons Tommy and Vincent, his daughters Marie, Una, Paula and Brenda and their families including his 14 grandchildren. We mourn the passing of another true son of Sarsfields.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
