Sarsfields News 16-10-2001

Congratulations to the U21’s and the Junior Hurlers.

The club thanks outgoing Manager Sean O’Sullivan and his management team for the great effort they have put in over the last 3 years, the highlight of which was reaching the Leinster final in 2005. The committee nominated at last years AGM to appoint new managers will carry out interviews shortly of prospective candidates.

The U21 football team had a very encouraging start to the championship with an emphatic and impressive win over Clane winning 5-16- to 1-3. Powered from midfield by the dynamic duo of Alan Smith and Gary White, Alan Barry’s charges started in whirlwind fashion and steamrolled Clane for the hour. They will now meet the winners of Carbury/St.Coca’s clash on Saturday week The Junior Hurlers had an equally impressive win over Naas on Sunday wining by 4-13 to 1-8.

Members of Sarsfields’ county winning minor team were in the club for juvenile training last Saturday to show the Gilligan Cup to the children attending the juvenile training – and also gave some valuable tips to the youngsters. Anyone wishing to get involved with the underage structure is very welcome. Call up to clubhouse on any Saturday or contact Juvenile chairman Tony McConnell on 086 3867966. In conjunction with Kildare Sports Partnership Sarsfields Juvenile club has prepared a Code of Ethics & Good Practice for young people in sport. It can be viewed or downloaded on Sarsfields Website at: www.sarsfieldsgaanewbridge.ie/ethics.htm. To navigate directly to this page, type in the above address in the Google or Yahoo search bar at the top of your computer screen. Alternatively it can be accessed by typing in Sarsfields GAA Newbridge into Google or Yahoo search engines and scrolling down to the link named Code of Ethics near the bottom of the Homepage. There will be a formal launch of the Code of Ethics on this coming Saturday at 12 noon in the clubhouse.

SAQ Ireland coaching course taking place in the club on the 9th of Nov. anybody interested in doing the course contact Tony Mc Connell 0863867966 tmaconnel@hotmail.com
Change of management at under 10: Stephen Brady, Dave Clancy and Niall Rennick take over from Joe O Connor and Sean Wallace and the club would like to thank Joe and Sean for their hard work over the last 5 years. Training for the under 10s will be on Sunday mornings.

The county board will in the coming months be reassessing the present championship structure and are likely to make changes for next year although it is unlikely that they will revert back to the knockout system.
