Edenderry………4-06
Portarlington……4-06

Edenderry and Portarlington finished all-square in the Division 1 Cumann Na mBunscol Final last Wednesday in Walsh Island on a scoreline of 4-06 apiece.

Stevie Osborne opened the scoring in this game with a fantastic shot which sailed over the bar from under the stand, after a good pass from Peter McNamara. Cian Farrell added Edenderry’s second point from a free. But soon Portarlington found their feet as they scored a goal and a point (free) to go in front. Edenderry responded very well when a long high ball from Lee Hyland was dropped by the Portarlington full-back, and Conor Farrell pounced to score a good goal. Edenderry nearly had the ball in the net for a second time, but unfortunately a good shot from Cian Farrell rebounded off the crossbar. Portarlington then added a goal and two points to go four points in front. Just before halftime Cian Farrell cut that lead when he converted two frees to leave two points between the teams at the break.

Halftime, Edenderry 1-04 Portarlington 2-03.

At the start of the second half Jason McNamee came to his sides rescue, as he made an excellent save and clearance. Edenderry then had the ball in the net for a second time when Stevie Osborne scored from close range. Cian Farrell then added two points in a row, before Portarlington scored their first point of the second half with a brilliant shot. Portarlington then scored their third goal when a forward got his hand to a 45 metre free to deflect the ball into the Edenderry net. Cian Farrell then scored Edenderry’s third goal, as the ball broke from a Lee Hyland shot, and Cian finished to the net. Portarlington then scored a point from a free, before Darren Quinn put four points between the sides with a good goal. Portarlington finished the game stronger and outscored Edenderry by a goal and a point to no score to earn a replay.

Both sides will do it all again when they face each other again on Saturday 7th November in O’Connor Park at 1.30pm. Edenderry wishes the team the best of luck in the replay.
