Schools Hurling Coaching

November 8, 2018

The Coaching & Games Committee and Bord na nÓg are delighted to announce the expansion of the Schools Coaching Programme. From this week 2 local Primary Schools will benefit from dedicated Hurling Coaching provided by the Club. The programme will then be rolled out to a third school after Easter.

Edenderry BNS has always had a strong tradition of hurling, nurtured by Mr. Seán Fitzgerald and more recently by Mr. Ger Ryan of Edenderry BNS. But now Edenderry GAA Hurling Coordinator Jimmy O’Grady will spent 8 hours per week in the school to supplement the coaching work of Ger Ryan. Each class will get an opportunity to get an introduction to our National pastime and learn the basic skills.

In addition Jimmy will be attending School Bhride 2 hours per week to carry out hurling coaching. This growing school has ambitions of competing in both hurling and football into the future and Edenderry GAA are delighted to be in a position to help them towards that goal.

After the Easter break Gaelscoil Éadan Doire will launch its hurling programme with the assistance of Jimmy.

All of this coaching is in addition to the football coaching being carried out by Keith Guinness in all of the Primary Schools in the area which totals over 20 hours per week.

We are delighted with the cooperation of the local schools and thank them greatly for their continued support.

The additional coaching in schools in conjunction with our Spring Series of Dual Code Coaching is the result of continued working partnership of the Coaching & Games Committee and the Bord na nÓg Committee.
