U21 B football West Championship Sean Treacys 0-4 Emly/Solohead 2-6

This knockout Championship match played at Kilcommon on a great surface started at pace with Tom Ryan unlucky for Treacys not to convert a point after a good passage of play from the home team. This game was late starting due to a no show for jerseys for the visitors; however the Milestone Mortgages tops were used by the combo to good effect as they led 2-4 to 0-2 for Treacys. Both teams traded wides throughout the first half with the Combo opening the scoring from a free in the tenth minute with Treacys replying with a vintage Danny O’Brien point to finish a good move. The visitors struck twice with over’s in the twentieth and Michael O’Gorman finished a good run to raise a white flag before half time. Then disaster struck at The Sean Treacy Centre for Treacys with two goals for Emly/Solohead which Brendan Shanahan who had a fine game could do nothing about. The Combo centre forward added another point leaving Treacys with a mountain to climb. Kieran Devitt scored an excellent point and young Tommy Kennedy was unlucky not add another for Treacys after resuming. Colm Nolan sliced a ball over the bar which could just as easily been a goal and Kieran Devitt who was busy all day shot his goal chance just right of the target. Treacys limited the Combo to one point from play in the second half due great work from their backs especially TJ Quigley. Others to shine for Treacys were Greg Kennedy, Sean Hickey and James Gough with Donnacha trying hard all day. Best of luck to the Combo in the West semi final and to this very young Treacy team managed by Joey Nolan, Tom Hickey and Paul Shields  in the  U21 Hurling west championship soon.
