In our second match of the season the Crosshaven Under 9 Galacticos travelled to Carrigtwohill, with over 9,000 travelling supporters at Ballyadam Park in 30 degree heat. Thank you to Carrigtwohill AFC for hosting us, some great players and very friendly and welcoming coaches. Crosshaven came away with 3 wins and a loss against a very good Carrigtwohill outfit.
Team 1 Hughie, Fionn, Daniel Bywater, Diarmuid, Olly & Oscar.
The guys hit the ground running today with top performances all over the pitch. The lads conceded only one goal in two games with Daniel Maldini rock solid in central defence. Diarmuid Kelly a complete box to box player dominated the midfield creating and scoring with ease, close to Mo Salah now, very close. We welcomed Olly Lynch to the team as well, answering our call to help from the under 8's, he was reminiscent of a young Ryan Giggs effortlessly gliding up and down the left wing. He chipped in with a barage of goals in game 1. Oscar Mansfield was like a young Pele up the right hand side. He is now being called the White Pele in Crosshaven, tricks & flicks well honed with hours of practice in the front garden. Oscar scored the only goal in game two after Crosshaven were denied on countless occasions by the excellent Carrigtwohill keeper. In goal at the other end were Hughie Murphy & Fionn Doran Noonan who left just one goal in between them and contributed greatly when outfield. At times the Carrigtwohill coach thought we had cloned them as they seemed to pop up everywhere. The guys won Game one well & Game two 1-0, thanks to you know who Ozzy who once again scored the winning goal. Total football. Pleasure to coach by our interim coach for the day Seamus, thanks Seamus. Pat had excused himself for the afternoon saying it was his Dad's birthday but he was spotted in The Oar around the time of the game by our spies in Crosshaven. Pat has paid the price see below.
Team 2 Daineal, Sam, Peter, William, Theo & Fergus
Offering a euro at the start to any player who could score with a volley, overhead kick or scissors kick the coaches had high hopes. Our first game started strangely slowly, and we were 2-0 down at half time. Many of the lads had played rugby and GAA matches beforehand and looked tired, and we are blaming the GAA and Rugby clubs for not preparing our lads properly. Letters of complaint coming in the post 🙂 However after stirring half time verbals the lads came back strongly and got to 2-1 thanks to William with 5 mins to go before having two goals from Sam and William that looked over the line disallowed. Anyway no harm done, but the boys were not happy. The coaches told them they had won 3-2 anyway to prevent bloodshed. Crosshaven lost 2-1 to a good Carrigtwohill team. Game 2 saw Daineal come out to play defence while Sam and Peter took turns in goal. Fergus once again solid in defence, Theo answered the call from the under 8's and was superb, once again nobody could catch him and make a wish, scoring some great goals. William and Peter chipped in with goals as well and Daineal showed he can play outfield really well as well as goalkeeping. Crosshaven won the game well and Pete won his euro by scoring from an overhead kick, well a kind of overhead kick and was delighted with himself. Both Fergus and Peter were treated to a Mighty Bucket each in KFC Little Island as a reward from their efforts.
