Edenderry seniors recorded their first win of the league camaign with a four point win over Ballycumber on Sunday morning. Having drawn with Walsh Island last weekend the reds were still looking for their first win and they done so on their third attempt.
Ballycumber opened the scoring when full forward Fergal Daly kicked a fouteen yard free but Edenderry replied immediately with two free’s of their own, the first from Derek Kelly after a foul on David Hanlon and the second from Mark Young after a foul on John Gorman. Fergal Daly again pointed for the visitors to level the sides. Dan Nolan put Edenderry back in front after some great play from Martin Keogh but again Ballycumber levelled when Paul Kelly scored.
Edenderry were enjoying the majority of possession and when Basil Malone’s shot fell short, Mark Young was on hand to finish the ball to the back of the net. Pat Moloney then played Basil Malone through who slotted the ball over the bar to extend Edenderry’s lead to four points. Ballycumber again came back and responded with three points before a Mark Young free again put two points between the teams. Just before half time Adrian Kelly pointed for Ballycumber to leave the minimum between the sides at half time.

At half time Edenderry introduced two subs, David Farrelly and Stephen Abbott for Pat Moloney and John Gorman. Ballycumber scored the first point of the second half when Colm Quinn scored a free. Edenderry responded when a great ball from Martin Keogh put Basil Malone through and Basil shot under the keeper to score Edenderry’s second goal of the game. Basil then added a further two points to the cause while Ballycumber also got two more points, one from Fergal Daly and one from Brian Halligan. Derek Kelly scored a another free but the score of the game came when Derek caught the ball on the sideline, turned in and beat two players, layed it off to the onrushing Dan Nolan who finished off a great move by scoring from 35 yards.

After three games Edenderry now have 3 points on the board. Due to a number of players being unavailable so far plenty of lads are getting their chance to cement their place in the managements plans.
