Seniors lose to Walsh Island

November 8, 2018

Edenderry seniors suffered their third straight loss when they were beaten by five points at home to Walsh Island on Sunday evening. A poor first half and a lack of firepower were the major factors behind this loss but the effort and work-rate was very good.

Walsh Island were by far the stronger team in the first half and with nine minutes on the clock they had raced into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead. In the fifteenth minute Edenderry finally got on the score sheet when Mark Young pointed a free for a foul on Cian Lawton.

Two minutes later Walsh Island added another point from a free and in the twenty sixth minute they converted a ’45 after a fantastic save from Brian Quinlan.

Walsh Island pointed to restore their two point lead but two points from Mark Young tied the game with fifteen minutes remaining.

In the twenty second and twenty sixth minute Walsh Island added a further two points and with two minutes remaining they scored the goal to give them a five point cushion. Walsh Island looked to have got in for a second goal just moments later but Ciaran Cummins pulled off a great save.
