Seniors reach League Final

November 8, 2018

Annaghdown 1-6 An Chreathru Rua 2-2

On Sunday we beat An Chreathru Rua at Cregg in our final group game of the Senior Football League on a scoreline of 1-6 to 2-2. Playing against the elements in the first half we were 0-3 to 1-2 down at the break, our scores in that half coming from Frankie Burke with two points and Michael Melia adding the other. Brendan Dooley scored our goal five minutes into the second half to give a lead we never lost with our other scores coming from Mathias Coleman, Brendan Dooley and Frankie Burke. We did have to survive a late Carraroe onslaught which yielded their second goal but in the end the result was a fair reflection on the day. Despite the desperate conditions both teams served up an entertaining contest but driving rain and slippy underfoot conditions made it difficult to play good football on the day. The team was Padraic Mannion, Alan Kavanagh, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Martin O’Neill, Brian Quarter, Paul Creaven, Anthony Pender, Niall Coleman, Kevin Keane, Michael Melia, Damien Burke, Fergal Doherty, Mattias Coleman, Brendan Dooley, and Frankie Burke. Sub Martin Duggan. We are now promoted to Senior ‘A’ next year and are also in the ‘B’ League Final against Milltown which should take place on the weekend of December 2nd & 3rd.
