Seniors ubeaten in league

November 8, 2018

Edenderry seniors maintained their 100% record in the league with a one point win over Gracefield. This was the first game this season were Edenderry had a full selection with county players Richie Dalton and Sean Pender both available. Conditions were tough after a week of bad weather but Edenderry battled hard and overall deserved their win.

Edenderry started well and registered the first two points of the game, firstly a Barry Moore free kick and then Basil Malone got Edenderry’s second after an assist from Sean Og Farrell and Seanie Moore. Wayne Mooney was introduced for the injured Stuart Quinn. Gracefield got one point back and then they got a very sloppy goal which Edenderry should have done a lot better. Barry Moore reduced the deficit with another free before Gracefield got in for another goal and a point. Edenderry responded with a goal when Seanie Moore put through his brother Barry whose shot was saved but the rebound fell to their uncle Sean Og who made no mistake with his finish. Edenderry and Gracefield both got one more point before half, Edenderry’s coming from Barry Moore.

Half Time score: 1-4 to 2-3

At half time Adrian Mahon came in for Shane Connell. Edenderry and Gracefield both scored 5 points in the second half but it was Barry Moore’s goal that made the difference. Basil Malone opened the scoring in the second half, followed by another Barry Moore point and then one from Peter Manley. Edenderry then took the lead with a Barry Moore free, followed by a point from play Richie Dalton who was put through by Seanie Moore. Edenderry’s final score of the game came when a long ball in from Sean Og Farrell was fisted into the back of the net by Barry Moore. The goal proved decisive as Gracefield missed a free with the last kick of the game.

On the day best for Edenderry were Barry Moore, Peter Manley, Sean Og Farrell, Sean Pender and Adrian Murphy.

Edenderry’s next game is April 21st away to Clara when once again all county players are available for selection.
