Celbridge 0 – 16, Naas 0 – 13 Clane, 11/5/2014
A determined Naas fight back in the last ten minutes when a five point deficit was reduced to two and a golden opportunity of a goal in the last minute was missed was not enough to prevent Celbridge repeating last years victory over Naas. Seven points from County star Paddy Brophy was a major factor in their victory.
Naas started strongly with points from David Gahan, Ailin Mc Dermott and Stephen Piggott to a Paddy Brophy point from a “45” to lead by 0 -3 to 0 – 1 after ten minutes. Celbridge levelled with points from Brophy and Shane Harte. A Shane Bergin free put Naas one point ahead. Celbridge got on top now and with four points in a row led 0 – 7 to 0 – 4 with five minutes to the break. Naas replied with points from Joey Cocoman and Eamonn Callaghan. A Brophy point left two between them at the interval.
An early Eamonn Callaghan point from a free reduced the arrears to a point before Mark O’Sullivan (Celbridge) and Ailin McDermott (Naas) swapped points. Celbridge then stretched their lead with three Brophy points and one from Mick Konstantin. Celbridge led 0 – 13 to 0 – 8 with ten minutes left. David Gahan and Eamonn Callaghan traded points with Paddy Brophy and Shane Harte.
A strong finish from Naas that yielded three points without reply from Paul Sullivan, Ross Bergin and Conor Ferguson left two between them with one minute to go. Celbridge replied with a Dylan Corcoran point to complete the scoring.
