Naas 1 – 13, Confey 0 – 09
A seventh minute Paul Sullivan goal set Naas on their way to an impressive seven point victory over Confey in an entertaining game. Naas dominated the first half and led by six points at the interval. Confey fought back in the second half and scored five points without reply between the 10th and 20th. minutes. Good defensive work and some fine saves by the Naas keeper Barry Reynolds kept Confey at bay.
Confey opened the scoring with a Thomas McCann point but Paul Sullivan replied with a Naas goal. Naas were dominant now and four points from Neil Farragher, Ailin McDermott, Paul Sullivan and Brian Kane put them 1 – 4 to 0 – 1 up after twenty two minutes. Approaching the end of the half two Confey points by David Slattery and Alan O’Sullivan were matched by two Ronan Joyce points for Naas and at half time Naas led 1 – 6 to 0 – 3.
At the start of the second half Joey Cocoman (Naas) and Frankie Barry (Confey) traded points before Naas opened a nine point gap with points from Ailin McDermott, Joey Cocoman and Ronan Joyce. Confey now had their period of dominance and rattled off five unanswered points from Colm McKiernan, Frankie Barry, Paddy Griffin, Gary Savage and Owen Farrelly to leave four between them with nine minutes to go. A Ronan Joyce point in the 23rd. minute halted the Confey resurgence. Two late points in injury time from Joey Cocoman and Oisin Gill left seven between them at the finish.
