SFL Div 2: Clonmore 0-8 Eire Og 0-10

November 8, 2018

Clonmore were reduced to 14 men early in this dramatic game at Woodside on Sunday evening following a hash sending off for a second yellow card. In spite of playing for 50 minutes with only 14 men, Clonmore showed great fighting spirit and skill and held the lead right up to the last few minutes when Eire Og struck for two late points to secure a hard earned victory.

Eire Og started the game with county players, Sean Gannon and Eoghan Ruth, at midfield but Clonmore looked the more lively team early on and deservedly led by 0-5 to 0-3 at half time. In the second half, strong defending by Shane Murphy, Ronan Doyle and John Kelly kept the YIs at bay for long periods while Enda McGrath, Gavin Byrne, Niall Humphries, Con Murphy and David Mulvaney ran themselves into the ground and took the game to the opposition at every opportunity.

A turning point came on 50 minutes when, with Clonmore leading by 0-6 to 0-5, Con Murphy had a goal-bound shot superby saved by Eire Og’s keeper, Jordan Roche, and Jamie Walsh’s follow up shot struck the post. A goal at that stage might have seen Clonmore home, but as it turned out, a string of excellent points by full forward Cormac Walsh and Eoghan Ruth gave Eire Og a narrow win:- 0-10 to 0-8.

The club would like to send best wishes for a speedy recovery to Michael Murray who received a serious shoulder injury in this game.

Minor Football League (B): Clonmore 4-14             Mount Leinster Rangers 0-4

Clonmore had a big win over Mount Leinster Rangers in the MFL in Borris on Sunday. A good all round display from the Clonmore team with the scores shared among a number of players. Clonmore built up a big first half lead, with some excellent scores and were very tight at the back, but MLR responded well at half time with the second half being a more competitive affair. Clonmore did enough in the second half to maintain their lead and came away with a deserved win.
