SFL Div 2: Clonmore 0-8 St Patricks (Tullow) 0-6

November 8, 2018

This dress rehersal for the First Round of the Championship turned out to be a damp squib on a cold and windy evening at Woodside. Neither team looked like they wanted to show their full hand and the quality of play from both sides was well below what they are capable of. Tullow had the best of the first half and led by 0-5 to 0-3 at HT, Clonmore’s Jamie Walsh and PJ Byrne scoring two points on the stroke of half-time to stay in touch.

The second half was all Clonmore and Tullow rarely threatened but it wasn’t until the 54th minute that Gavin Byrne’s fourth pointed free put us in front for the first time – 19 wides, four kicks into the goalie’s hands and three missed goal chances tells its own story. Jamie Walsh rounded off a good performance with a tidy point off his left foot toi finish the scoring at 8pts to 6. Tullow claim they were missing seven regulars and Clonmore didn’t bring on our county players until late, so its safe to say that the Championship will be a whole new ball game.
