SFL Div 2: Clonmore 1-11 Fighting Cocks 0-8

November 8, 2018

Clonmore made good use of the wind in the first half to run up a lead of 1-9 to 0-2 in this SFL Div 2 game at Tullow on Sunday evening. Playing fast, lively football the youthful Clonmore lads put together some delightful moves, the highlight coming in the 10th minute when Niall Humphries combined with Owen Coleman to score a fine goal. This was followed by a string of points from Humphries, Coleman, Gavin Byrne, Con Murphy and PJ Byrne to give the Wicklow border men a ten point half-time lead.

The Fighting Cocks tried their best in the second half with Liam Sheppard prominent at midfield and Mattie Dowling, Kieran & Gary Nolan and Alan Quigley scoring some good points. But Clonmore were always in control with Bobby Rooney and Pauric Lawlor marshalling the defence, Ronan Doyle steady at midfield and the six forwards combining well as a unit to record a deserved win.
