SFL Div 2: Clonmore 2-9 Fenagh 1-4

November 8, 2018

Clonmore came out on top in Woodside on Saturday evening in a tough physical encounter against a Fenagh team who were Senior last year.

In a great team effort by the 17 lads who played, this match will do wonders for their confidence in the matches that lie ahead. In a low scoring first half Clonmore retired at the interval behind by 1-2 to 3 points after hitting seven wides. The break did them the world of good as they started the second half strongly and were soon back on level terms. The last twenty minutes were all Clonmore and we ended up winning by eight points.

Gavin Byrne scored four points from frees, one of which in the first half was a great effort from wide on the right wing. Jamie Walsh’s goal was a delicate lob over the keeper and Shane ‘Shock’ McGrath took his penalty excellently after Kevin McCarney was fouled in the square.

Next game is away to Tullow on Sunday evening at 7pm.

Team: Colin McGrath, Paul Hogan, Bobby Rooney, John Kelly, Willie Rooney, Ronan Doyle, Enda McGrath (0-1), Gavin Byrne (0-4, 4f), David Mulvany, Kevin McCarney, Shane McGrath (1-1, pen), David McCarney (0-1), Paul Byrne (0-1), Darren McGrath, PJ Byrne. Subs: Jamie Walsh (1-0) for Darren McGrath, Jordan Kane (0-1) for Bobby Rooney.

Photo: Ronan Doyle revelled in the physical exchanges with Fenagh and produced his usual effective performance at centre-back. A dedicated and consistent player who gets on with the job with the minimum of fuss, Ronan is a great role model for the young players on the team.
