SFL Div 2 FINAL: Clonmore 0-14 Eire Og 1-8

November 8, 2018

Congratulations to the Intermediate team and mentors on winning the SFL Div 2 Final against Eire Og in a hard fought game on Sunday evening. The club has now won back-to-back Division Two titles and seven in total (1972,77,81,90,98,2011 and 12).

The team showed great heart to come back from conceding 1-2 within six minutes to be level at 0-8 to 1-5 at half-time, especially after losing three experienced players, Owen Coleman, John McGrath and Bobby Rooney, through injury in the first half. In a great all round team performance, Collie McGrath made some important saves in goal, Paul Hogan had a stormer at corner back and was well supported by the rest of the backs with Willie Byrne deserving mention for a vital goal line save in the dying seconds. At midfield, Gavin Byrne caught some great balls and was outstanding from frees while David Mulvany got through a huge amount of work. In a lively forward line, Niall Humphries scored four lovely points from play and Jamie Walsh kicked a superb point towards the end to put three points between the teams.

Our attention now turns to the Intermediate Championship with the First Round against St Patricks of Tullow on Sunday next, 15 July, at 7.30 in Kildavin. Best wishes to the lads for a successful Championship campaign.
