SFL Div 2: Railyard 1-10 Clonmore 2-6

November 8, 2018

There was no shortage of effort from the Intermediates tonight but we missed numerous chances in the dying minutes to at least get a draw and had a penalty saved in the first half.

The Kilkennny side have been going well in the League and have won 4 games from 5, beating us, Eire Og, Grange and the Fighting Cocks.

In a close first half, Clonmore raced onto a 0-4 to 0-2 lead on 15 minutes with points from Niall Humphries (2), Paddy Gahan and Gavin Byrne.  The Railyard full-forward, Roche, was outstanding all night and he set us back with a goal on 16 minutes. Anthony Byrne replied for Clonmore on 26 minutes with an excellent goal after an incisive run though the middle. Railyard led at half-time by 1-5 to 1-4.

The third quarter belonged to Railyard and they scored four points without reply to lead by 1-9 to 1-4 on 45 minutes. A late rally yielded points by Gavin and Niall and a scrambled goal from Cormac Malee but several good chances for an equaliser were spurned.

We can still qualify for the semi-finals if we win our last 3 games starting on Friday away to Grange at 7.30pm.
