St Andrews had to come from behind to maintain their unbeaten record in this SFL Division two game against fellow table toppers Clonmore at McGrath Park on Sunday evening. Bagenalstown opened the scoring through Peter Doyle, Shane Maye and Alan Beaton but points from Gavin Byrne, PJ Byrne, Owen Coleman (2) and Ronan Doyle put Clonmore ahead by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time.
St Andrews again made the better start to the second half and went 0-8 to 0-7 ahead on 50 minutes with some good long range points from Maye, Doyle, Paddy Kavanagh and corner back Murt Cummins. Clonmore wasted some good scoring chances before eventually PJ Byrne volleyed a great point that could have been a goal, Ronan Doyle kicked a fine point and then, after the outstanding Enda McGrath hit the crossbar, substitute Jamie Walsh buried the rebound to put Clonmore 1-7 to 0-8 ahead on 53 minutes.
St Andrews responded well and a great David Cormack point from a ’45’ and a last minute point from 40m by Andrew Beaton gave the Bagenalstown men a hard earned draw.
