With summer fast approaching it seems an appropriate time to inform our members that the club will be seeking new officers for 2019 onward. My term as chairperson finishes this year and both our secretary and treasurer, Alan and Noel have indicated that they will not be seeking re-nomination at the AGM this coming November. That leaves us with 5-6 months left. We (along with the entire Executive Committee) have worked extremely hard over the past 2 and half years to lead and serve the club and it has been a huge honour to do so. However, come November it will be time for others to come forward and lead the ship and we will gladly row in behind whoever that is.
In our opinion the club is in a great place and thriving in most areas. There is a lot of work to do in certain areas but we believe that serious foundations have been laid to build the club even further over the coming years. Our only hope is that the work we have started and built on over the last number of years will continue and all 3 of us will commit to helping in whatever way we can to see that it does.
Therefore we are asking people to come forward now and take up the mantle for the good of the club. An ideal situation would be for people to get involved now in an informal capacity, without the resposibility to learn the ropes as there is plenty to learn. For the good of the club the best situation is for a smooth transition over the next number of months. If we have a situation where we have to wait until November for a complete handover, our worry is some of the good work done will be undone by a rushed changeover. Serving as an officer is hard work and there's no point sugar coating that but leading one of Ireland's biggest and best GAA clubs is a hugely rewarding and challenging experience and one we have relished over the past few years. Please make contact with us if you have any interest in getting involved and if it's not for you, then there is always the opportunity to step away before Novemeber. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Féile last weekend was a huge success and I just want to put our thanks out to every sigle person involved in what was an incredible weekend for our club, and above all the players from our club and the clubs we hosted. A huge thank you also to hurling and football féile sponsors Sherry Fitgerald who organised free ice cream, party packs and player of the tournament awards which was very generous of them. All the information on the weekend is below….
There are a few summer camps we would like to bring to your attention taking place at the Árus and Prairie this year:
1. Date for your diary: The August Hurling/Camogie Academy will run from Tues 21 August to Friday 24 August, 10am-2pm, for boys and girls born 2006 to 2011. Online registration will open on Monday 16 July, the week after the Hurling/Camogie Cul Camp.

3. Multi Activity GAA Junior Camp is returning this Summer from the 9th-13th of July.
Our exciting camp is open to all National School children aged 5-10 years old who are GAA club members.
Running from 9.30am to 1.30pm each day in the Árus Bothar na Trá.
The cost of the camp is €60 for one child and €100 for two children from the same family.
If you would like to reserve a place please email campskgaa@gmail.com with your child’s name, age and GAA club.
Children can expect a week of fun and games while improving their GAA skills.

Senior:
Hard luck to the senior footballers who were beaten by Mountbellew Moylough in the Prairie on Sunday.
Best of luck to Sean, Evan, Ruairi and the Galway seniors in the Connacht Final vs Roscommon this weekend.
Junior
The juniors will play their rescheduled game vs Claregalway tomorrow evening in Knockdoe at 8pm.
Junior A
Hard luck to the Junior As who were well beaten by Barna in the league last night. Unfortunately it was a bit of a mismatch pitting our 3rd team against their 2nd team and since Barna have not played senior championship yet they had 5 or 6 senior players available to them last night. Our final league game is vs St. Michaels in the coming weeks.
Juvenile Football
U9's had another great day out last Saturday when we travelled to Dublin.A big thank you to all the parents / coaches for taking a day out to help make it the success it was.We had 30 players play Ballinteer St.Johns in a blitz in the morning.They lads grew into the games and faired out well over all,they will have learnt alot !.Touring the theatre of dreams went down well & great fun was had in Croke Park museum.Nice to see the bonding & craic between them on the bus also.Training continues Tue's & Sun's.Next blitz is v. Oranmore on Sun. 24th.Best of luck to the SKGAA lads & the Galway team in the Connacht Final on Sunday.
U10’s played Bearna Tuesday night in Cappagh. With a strong turnout and the street leagues after finishing up last week, the U10s continued their great work with excellent football throughout against Bearna. It is great to see how the kids are applying all the skills learnt over the past few months in the games. We are playing Caherlistrane away this Sunday morning, details to be sent by text later in the week. Best of Luck to Galway this Sunday.
U11s 2 teams played away to Claregalway last weekend in the u12 league both recording 2 great wins its great to see the development of the squads and some great scores.
The 12b won 4-7 to 1-4 and the Cs win 2-7 to 1-1 so we'll done to both squads and managers Dec Brian Michael Martin and Alan.
The 12Bs have qualified for league final awaiting details and the Cs have 2 games left next week v Craughwell and Michaels and they need to win 1 to qualify.
The 12As were unlucky to lose to Claregalway away by 4-7 to 3-6 and there has been huge improvement over past few games.

Junior A Hurling
SK Junior played Athenry at Carnmore pitch on Sunday afternoon in their 3rd Championship Group match. Despite a brave effort from all involved, SK were defeated by 0-16 to 0-11.
Junior C:
SK Junior C were defeated away to Tynagh Abbey Duniry on Sunday Evening. The Junior Match which was fixed to take place on Sunday morning has been postponed.
We wish Cathal Keane the best of luck with his recovery from the knee injury which he sustained playing for the Junior A's last week.

U6/U8 Hurling
U6/U8's. Almost 100 boys took part in the U8 blitz against Oranmore on Sunday morning. Great to see more and more boys growing into it each with each blitz.
Training this Friday as usual at 5:45pm in Cappagh Park.
U10 Hurling
We are playing Go Games blitz away v Turloughmore this Friday at 7pm.
U12 Hurling
U12s playing Gort next Saturday morning (16th), 11am in Gort.
Training continues Mondays and Fridays in Cappagh.
U13 Hurling
U13 hurlers play their first championship game this Thursday, away to Oranmore, 6.45pm.
U14 Hurling
So Féile Na nGael 2018 is over , no trophies won but a weekend I hope our players will always remember. We welcomed CRC Gaels, from Carrig Riverstown and Crinkill GAA Club from Offaly. Who went on and won the Division 4 Cup Final. Congratulations CRC Gaels. We have to thank all the Players and Management Sean, Pat, Clem, Matthew and Conor for the hard work they put all year. Thanks to all the Parents for hosting and looking after all the teams on Saturday morning in the Arus. Thanks to James Molloy and John Donoghue for having the grounds ready and to Ger Mulholland for leading the Féile committee a long with Aisling Howe who organised all the host families and lots more . Thanks to Salthill Camogie for all their hard work and I think we all worked well together, to make it a great weekend. The Girls were very unlucky to lose out at the semi final stage. We had a lot of fun raising along the way and we were very lucky to have Lettings SherryFitz Galway Sherry FitzGerald Group Galway to come on board to sponsor our U14 Hurlers and Footballers. Thanks to Tony Kavanagh, Linda McCallion and our own Catherine Connolly from Sherry FitzGerald. They spoil the teams on Saturday with goodie bags and ice cream for all the hurlers along with the camogie teams and supporters . Sherry Fitz also presented a player of the game to all four teams on the Saturday evening that played on Saturday morning in the Prairie. We have to thank St. Thomas's for looking after us on the Friday evening. Thanks to everyone in the Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club that has helped out over the last few weeks to get Féile Na nGael a great success. To management, parents,families,sponsors, catering,fundraising, entertainment , cleaning and decorating GO RAIBH MÍLE MAITH AGAIBH.
Camogie
U10s finished groups stages of county blitz with game against Oranmore Maree while U9 and 10s will play challenge against Rahoon Newcastle this Thursday.
Hard luck to the U11s who competed in Division 5 semi final of county U12 cluster blitz. They lost out to a strong Na Brideoga in a keenly contested exciting game. Next up for these girls is summer league starting in August.
U16s are quiet on match front at moment but continue to train for their championship that will re start at knockout stages after the exams.
Juniors begin first match in championship next Wednesday 20th at home. Time and venue tbc.
U14
After months of anticipation and preparation the Féile arrived in the west last Friday for the first time since 2011.
Our camogie girls started the tournament in Oranmore Maree in blistering sunshine. In the opener against group favourites Conahy (Kilkenny), the girls put in a brave effort but were beaten by 2 points. Next match was against the hosts for the evening Oranmore Maree and having held a lead for most of the match the girls lost in the end by one point when legs and heat took their toll. Thanks to Oranmore Maree for refreshments and for providing catering for our players and mentors that evening.
The next morning's match was in the Prairie against our guests for the weekend Blackrock Effin (Limerick) who were being hosted in the area by SK players families. After the losses the evening before, Salthill Knocknacarra got the win they wanted in front of a supportive home crowd. A coin toss took place to determine final group standings and result of that was we travelled to Carnmore to play and register a win against Rockbán (Cork) in shield quarter final.
That night, a function was held in Clybaun Hotel for camogie and hurling and their respective guest teams, Blackrock Effin and CRC Gaels. On the night a player of the match award was presented to Neasa Daly for her performance in the Prairie that morning. Thanks to Sherry Fitzgerald Galway who sponsored the prize and also provided an ice cream van and goodies that morning in the Prairie
That win against Rockbán on Saturday meant the girls were in Féile for the Sunday and a trip to Ballyhaunis for semi final against Ballyea (Clare). In what was an tight and enthralling match that was in the balance until the last puck, the girls lost out by the minimum score to the eventual winners.
Overall on the pitch, the girls and mentors, Elaine Kelly, Des Joyce and Tommy Keane can be very pleased with the performance. In the course of the three days, they played four county champions, beating two of them and losing to the others by two and one point respectively.
Thank you to all those, too numerous to mention, who volunteered in a variety of roles over the weekend. Special thanks to the host families but also first aiders, photographer ,umpires,water girls , stats girl and those who helped out with catering in Oranmore and Salthill. All these and others helped to make this the great club event that it was. In the spirit of Féile and forging new friendships, plans are already being made for a return visit to Blackrock Effin in September.

Ladies Football
Galway LGFA are holding a fundraising event in Galway Greyhound Stadium next Sat 16th June. The club has been given 10 tickets and are already paid for. If interested please get in contact with the secretary of the ladies football in Salthill.
u14/u16 – SKU16s are playing the U14 Girls tonight in an internal friendly. After that they go back on pause until end of June. Mike Corcoran
u12 – 07 team great victory over Annaghdown in league qr final 2-2 to 2 points. Fantastic performance and are now in semi final after victory.
06 girls in co final also after 1-7 to 2-1 victory over Kilkerrin/Clonbern.. both teams playing great football.
Big Thanks to parents for washing gear, coaching, lining pitches , support and lifts . So far fanastic season.
