Happy Valentines days to you all. 

A quick note on registration. Thank you all for being so accomodating with regards our switch to online registration, but a gentle remider that all members must be registered to be covered by insurance should they get injured. This is especially important at this time of year with most teams going back training and playing matches again.

Captain's Run

On Saturday we invited all of our 25 victorious captains for a photo shoot in their gear with all their trophies following a fantastic 2017 in competition over the four codes. 

 

 

Congratulations

Finian Hanley receiving a special presentation from Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club by his first two coaches Ben Kelly and Tim O’Connell to mark his retirement from the Galway intercounty team following a fantastic career with the Tribesmen. Míle buíochas to Davitt Photo Centre for doing such a fantastic job on the jersey, photos and frame.

Car Park

Míle buíochas to John Donohue, Brendan McBrien, Alan Hassett, Ray Devlin and Mike Corcoran for giving up 4 hours of their Sunday morning and standing out in the sub-zero temperatures to look after the car park and the Árus facilities on Sunday with so much going on. Volunteerism at it's finest. 

Clothes Bank

Our offcial SKGAA Club Clothes Bank has finally arrived and is located just inside the gates in the Árus so if you have any unwanted clothes be sure and deposit them here and you'll be helping the club at the same time. Míle buíochas to hurling and camogie coach Clem Garvey for organising this great initiative.

Cards

Anyone interested in playing 25 (cards). Cards will continue again this Thursday in the kitchen in the Árus from 8.30pm. All welcome.

Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety

The Club will host a Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety talk to for Parents and teenagers on the 26th and 27th of February. Further details next week……

Míle buíochas to Richard Hughes of Richard Hughes Opticians Seacrest and Woodquay who renewed his suponsorship of the skgaa lotto for the 7th year. The club are very appreciative for all the the support Richard has given and continues to give each year.

Adult Football

Congrats to Sean Armstrong and Evan Wynne who were both in the Galway panel last Sunday when they overcame Mayo in the league in the Stadium with sean coming on at half time. Next up is the FBD final vs Roscommon with potentially mor skgaa lads involved. 

Best wishes to manager Maurice Sheridan and the skgaa lads William Finnerty, John Maher and Marcus MacDonnchadha in the Sigerson Cup semi final this weekend with N.U.I., Galway. 

The (new) U20 championship will kick off the weekend after next for skgaa with the lads due to play Oranmore Marree in Cappagh on Sunday week. This tournament is the replacement for the U21 club tournament. 

Adult Hurling

The first Junior A Hurling training session of 2018 takes place this Saturday 17th at Cappagh Park 11am. Time to dust off the Hurls and Boots and hit the ground running for a busy season ahead! Time to build on all the progress and improvements made in 2017.

Under 21 Training Tonight Wednesday. Wall Ball and Sand. Junior's and Minors welcome. Bring Boots and Runners.

SK are raining champions of the Táin League. This tournament has always taken place late January to March, however this year it has been put back to April with matches taking place mid-week. Finer details yet TBC. 

SK will also this year be entering a second hurling team in the Championship. This year, SK will have both a Junior A team as well as a Junior C team. This will enable younger players to gain experience in Adult Hurling, and more game time for all. 

Minor Hurling: 

Haven been Victorious in Division C in 2017 with a relatively young squad  (many of whom eligible for Minor again this year) as well as those who were narrowly defeated in the Under 16A Semi – Final last year, SK will make the big leap to division A this year. The teams in A division are as follows:

It is an honour for the Club that our young Hurlers will be competing with Clubs of such calibre at Minor A level this year. 

Under 21 Hurling: 

The Under 21s will play their Hurling at  B1 Level this year. Another SK team who are playing at a higher level this year. Group is as follows:

Easter hurling camogie camp will provisionally take place Tuesday April 3rd to Friday 6th . If you are interested please let your relevant team coach/mentors know.

 

U9/10 training continues Thursday 6pm in Arus. New and returnee players welcome , this of course applies to all groups.

 

U12s train Thursday 5pm in Arus.

 

U14s play first match , a challenge against Oranmore Maree, this Saturday afternoon  in Loughrea. The U14 Championship will begin in early March.

 

U16 training resumes this Thursday evening 8pm at  Arus.

 

Of interest  to the hardened “25” players in the club will be the  Galway Hospice/Galway Camogie card game to be held on Sunday 18th March in Loughrea Hotel. Next day is a bank holiday so no excuse. Tickets from Veronica Ryan or any of the camogie committee.

 

Juvenile Football

U9/10/11 teams have all started back training in aras with great numbers back.

U11 will train on Mondays until mid march with u9/10 back in Tuesday's on the wall ball.

 

U13/14 continue to train indoor on Tuesdays.

 

U15/16 continue to train on Sundays on kingfisher 

No games yet but some teams are lining up challenges around galway games.

Juv football predict a quiz launched with all teams getting cards to sell so hope to get a good response to this to raise funds for juvenile football 

The Juvenile Football committee are also looking for help for the year ahead as with over 12 teams and 400 children there is a lot of work involved in running the Football Section.

As the old motto goes its better to have a lot of people do a little rather than a few people do everything so with a new year and fresh enthusiasm if any parents are willing to help out in any way be it as a one off or attend a meeting once a month for 7/8 months please contact Juvenile Football chairman Noel Tyrell on 0879506140 or email noeltyrell@hotmail.com

Ladies Football

Junior – Ladies team are due to kick off the first round of their league this Sunday 18th against Micheal Breathnachs in Cappagh @2pm. All support welcome! 

u16/u18/Junior- Training proceeding on Mondays in St. Endas Hall. 37 Girls in attendance. Excellent drills conducted by Coaches. Going outdoors Sat 17th in Cappagh 3 to 430pm. 2018 season Up and Running.

Coaching Corner

Child Protection Course running in the club on Thurs 22nd 7.30-9.30pm. Open to all coaches and parents helping with coaching in any code.
