Congrats to all those club members who received their Leaving Cert results this week. We hope there are many happy homes this evening looking forward to the next adventure. 

 

Plenty of SKGAA news as things ramp up towards the Autumn. It's a pivotal weekend for hurling as the minor hurlers play the County C Final vs Rahoon/Newcastle in the Stadium on Sunday. The Junior A's also have a crucial game in their quarter final play off this Friday. There is an U13 Shield Final also on Monday. Mixed results from the football over the weekend with the seniors and junior A's both suffering loses, but the U16s collected some silverware and the Juniors qualified for the league final. Good wins also for the Junior Ladies Football team and the U11 camogie team.

The senior footballers suffered a defeat to St. James in the league on Saturday evening. Final score was St. James 4-09 to 0-12 in favour of St. James. All eyes now on the crucial championship game in a week's time vs St. Michaels in Pearse Stadium on Sunday the 27th of August at 2.30pm. 

 

Junior Footballers qualified for the league final with a comprehensive 3-18 to 2-04 win over Moycullen last Thursday. They will face a strong Renvyle team in the final in the upcoming weeks. 

 

The Junior As lost out to Na Piarsaigh Rosmuc on Sunday in Indreabhán with a much depleted line up. 

 

 

U6-U10s all teams still on summer break alot of children partook in the SKGAA summer camp run by Noel Tyrrell and SK Senior players.over 50 kids boys and girls attended the camp with great coaching and entertainment. 

 

U11s play Oranmore in u12 league on Sunday at 12 in cappagh

 

Skgaa U15 took on Athlone in the Davy Allen memorial cup in Athlone GAA on 15th. Skgaa retained the cup on a 6-10 to 4-15 score. Ben Kelly captained the side.

 

Davy Allen Memorial Cup 2017

The latest edition of Davy Allen Memorial Cup was played on Tuesday last when Athlone hosted Salthill-Knocknacarra in a highly entertaining U16 match. The spectators who gathered for the match were treated to a great spectacle on a beautiful summer’s evening. It was fitting for the occasion that the game was won by the minimum of margins with the visitors scoring a goal with the last kick of the game to triumph on a score-line 6-10 to 4-15. It is a cliché to say that “football was the real winner” but this was genuinely the case for this event as following the presentation of the cup to the victor’s captain by Kevin Allen (Davy’s brother) on behalf of the Allen family, both sides retired to the club house together for some very well earned refreshments. Many thanks to Gerry Sweeney and the lads from Salthill-Knocknacarra for making this a very memorable evening. Finally, sincere thanks as always to the Tara, Shane, Kayleigh and the greater Allen family for allowing us to ensure that Davy’s legacy is always remembered by the club.

 

 

U14 & u 16 all resumed training last week in preparation for their championship semi finals details to be forwarded next week.

 

U8s train Thursday 6pm in Cappagh.

 

U11s travelled out to Eyrecourt last Sunday morning  for their first match in the U11 Summer league .In a closely contested match , the SKGAA girls came out on top  with a score line of SKGAA 3-0  Eyrecourt 0-4 .Thanks to all Parents who travelled down and supported .

Next match  is away to Craughwell  on  Saturday  19th Aug at 10.15am. Training as usual at Cappagh 6-7pm on Thursday.

 

U13s continue training in preparation for resumption of summer league.

 

U16s county semi final against Mullagh has been rescheduled until county players are available.

 

Juniors preparation for county semi continues with a challenge against St Colemans on Tuesday 22nd August.

 

The club is running a camogie  and hurling camp next week Tuesday 22nd to Friday 25th  .There will be two venues with girls 2006 -2010  in Prairie and older girls up to 2001(U16) in Cappagh.  Camp will run from 10am to 2pm each day ,€40 per child with reduction for siblings. There has been a great response so far with a large number of girls already registered. If you wish to register notify team coach or come along to Prairie or Cappagh  depending on age on Tuesday before 10am.

 

This Sunday the county camogie annual church gate collection will be held all over the county. There will be club collectors at Salthill and Knocknacarra churches over the weekend. Volunteers to shake buckets still required. 

 

Under 17 Hurlers beat Carnmore 1-21 to 3-13 in the Prairie on Monday Evening in the City League. Great win for the Club. Well done to Players, Management and all involved.

 

Junior Hurlers face their biggest Match of the Season to date this Friday Evevining. 

 

The Group Play-off vs Ballygar takes place this Friday Evening in Carnmore Pitch, throw-in 7pm. 

 

SK finished on equal points as the opposition at the end of the group stages. SK also drew with  Ballygar in their own Group encounter earlier in the Summer. So there's nothing to separate the sides. This one is not to be missed so head out to Carnmore on Friday and cheer on the lads!

 

Minor Hurling Championship Final: SKGAA vs Rahoon/Newcastle this Sunday at 2.30pm in Pearse Stadium. Please come and support the lads!

 

To add to the drama, the Under 21s have their 1st Championship match on Sunday week, 27th vs…Ballygar! 

 

Note that training for Minors/Under 21s/Junior Hurlers takes place at earlier time of 7.30 tonight, Wednesday in the Prairie.

Regular training for Under 8s resumes Friday 1st of Sept 6pm McGraths Field. All players are encouraged to attend the Academy camp if at all possible.

 

U9/10 Hurling: Training resumes this Fri 18th in Cappagh Park 6pm-7.15pm. 

All boys are encouraged to do the August Hurling Camp next week Tues 22 – Fri 25th, 10am to 2pm each day in the Prairie. Thanks to all who have registered so far.

 

Training continues for u12's, Cappagh Park,  4.30-6.00,  Fridays.

 

County shield Final.  We will play Gort on Monday evening in loughrea at 7:15pm.   Best of luck to all the team and management.  

 

Well done to the U17 hurlers. We had a 1-21 to 3-13 win over Carnmore, Monday evening . Best of luck to all the players in the Minor county final vs Rahoon Newcastle this Sunday at 2.30pm in Pearses Stadium. 

 

Hurling/camogie Academy .

Hurling/camogie Academy camp Tuesday the 22nd to Friday the 25th. Once again we have some top class Coaches coming. 

Please register with your age group manager asap if you haven't done so already. Many registered already… thanks!

County – Hard luck to Saoirse Flynn and the Galway Minors who lost out to a strong Cork team in the All Ireland Final on the August Bank Holiday Monday. The club is very proud of all Saoirse has achieved this year and we look forward to seeing her in the maroon and white of Galway again in the near future. 

 

Junior – Well done to the Ladies team who beat Monivea Abbey on a scoreline of 3-20 to 2-9 in the 3rd round of the Championship. Training continues as usual Wed @8pm in Endas. 

 

u14 – No matches played over the past week. In place of matches, two good training sessions took place Wed 9/8 and Sat 12/8 with 16 girls at each session. Both sessions took place at McGraths Field. This is in preparation for a possible play off game to decide who gets into Div 2 County Final planned for last w/e in August.

 

The SK U14 Girls played Game 3 of 3 in the Round Robin championship on Sat 5/8 in Ballygar. This the 2nd time SK played Ballygar this year and the third time in 3 years that SK have travelled out to the North East Galway Border Club.

Unfortunately, SK came up short on a score line of 7-10[31] to 5-6[21] in a competitive game. For the 1st half, SK played against a stiff breeze and did well to stay within 4 points at half time. For the 2nd half the Girls tired and conceded a number of goals that dropped under the crossbar at the last second. 20 Girls travelled and all but 1 got a game.  Next up is the deciding game to see who gets into Div.2 final. SK have two wins, Ballygar have two wins.

SK U 14s had a fine victory over tough country opponents Caherlistrane on a breezy damp Thursday night in the North Galway Club. Thankfully SK  came out on top in this challenging match with a final score of 4-7 [ 23 ] to 2-2 [ 8 ]. SK County Girls had a major bearing on this game with a fine team defense display in the first to an all out attack with breeze assistance the order of the evening in the 2nd half. Great turn out on a wintry evening in Caherlistrane. 23 girls togged out and all but 3 girls got a game.

Quite time on the Ladies Football front. Many girls & Parents away on Vacation and An Gaelteacht.

Training continued Wed 12th July and Sat 15th July. Difficult conditions on Sat but good effort put in the 12 girls in attendance. Other girls participating in the County U13 Development Squad. Good luck to those girls as the squad is trimmed to a number of 30 girls.
