The Neale   V  Kiltimagh  15-03-09    ref  John Hughes

Before the match a minutes silence was observed in the memory of Enda Hughes R. I. P. The pitch was in excellent condition and the Neale played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half. Paddy Hopkins opened the scoring with a point from 20 metres after good work from Eoin Hughes.In fact the Neale could have been further ahead if they where more clinical in front of goal.  Liam Lydon replied for the away side however Hopkins extended the home sides advantage again with a well taken point after receiving a good pass from Mike Fleming. Four frees three from the lively Ronan Malee and one from Brian Gallagher put Kiltimagh 5points to 2 up after twelve minutes. Two excellent points from Simon Ryan and Steven Lydon was followed by a goal from a penalty by Ryan after Lydon was fouled in the square to put the Neale 1—04 to 0—05 ahead entering the second quarter. From here to half time Kiltimagh got on top at midfield and points from Mallee and Noel Lydon was followed by an excellent individual goal from Liam Lydon, before Hopkins had the last say of the half with a point tom leave the half time score 1—07 to 1—05 in favour of Kiltimagh.

In the second half Kiltimagh with the aid of the breeze started in whirlwind fashion and points from Tomas Murtagh and four Malee frees extended there lead to 1—11 to 1—05. For the next Fifteen minutes the Neale began to dominate with points from Lydon (fisted), Hopkins and Ryan narrowing the gap to 1—11 to 1—08 entering the final quarter. However fitness began to tell with the industrious Malee(3) and Noel Walsh points saw them run out easy winners !—16 to 1—08. On the day Pat Casey was the pick of the defence and was supported by Michael Lynagh after his introduction. Eoin Hughes had his periods of dominance in midfield and also the move of Robert Holian there paid dividends. The Neales inside forwards Hopkins, Lydon and Ryan had there moments.

John Heskin, Pat Casey, Padraig Mc Grath, Peter Cosgrave, Eoin Hughes, David Morrin, Mike Fleming, Robert Holian, Simon Ryan(1-02, 1 pen ), Steven Lydon(0—02) and Paddy Hopkins(0—4). Subs used; Mike Lynagh for Mike Waldron and James Biggins for Robert Holian
