Dundalk Gaels recorded their first victory of the year after easily defeating St Josephs by 1-13 to 0-4 with a good team display leading to this victory. David Maloney and David McComish worked tirlessly in the middle of the field and their fitness showed as they found themselves covering all areas of the field right up to the final whistle.
The Gaels opened their scoring through David McComish before David Reilly scored 3 points for the Joes. All the Gaels points came from play which was very positive for the team as the first league game of the year draws closer. Some good points from Sean Fee, the two McArdle brothers, David Maloney and Andrew Coleman and another from David Reilly left the scoreline 8-4 to the Gaels advantage at half time.
The Joes were unable to register a score in the second half while the Gaels scored 1-5, a goal from Tiernan O’Domhnaill as well as two points from young sub Gary Shevlin and a point from Errol Boyle, Paul Burke and the impressive Andrew Coleman left the final score 1-13 to 0-4.
The Gaels play their 6th game of the Paddy Sheelan Cup away to the O’Connells next Saturday and will be looking to build on this display before they play away to Roche Emmetts in the first round of the league.
