Mayo Gaels were defeated by Swinford in the second round of the Michael Walsh League played in a wet and windy Swinford on Sunday the 23th of February.
Despite the poor conditions both teams served up a keenly contested and entertaining game. Mayo Gaels, playing with a strong wind in the first half, were 0.06 to 0.02 ahead at the interval. The Gaels defended very well in the second half and the lads appeared to be in control when holding a 0.07 to 0.06 lead at the sixty minute mark – however in a dramatic finish – two long range points (one from a free) clinched an injury time win for Swinford. It was a cruel finish to what was a strong battling performance from the Gaels lads.
The Senior’s next outing in the Ml Walsh League is home to Parke next Sunday the 2nd of March at 11.30am.
