The Barry O'Brien Sports Scholarship Award

The Barry O’Brien Sports Scholarship Award honours the memory of Barry O’Brien past pupil and teacher of St Benildus College, who drowned accidentally on August 17th 2002. It is designed as a practical support for young athletes to help them achieve levels of excellence in their chosen discipline. The award is intended to help with travelling, training and coaching expenses and is complemented by free access to the sport and fitness facilities at St Benildus College. The Barry O’Brien Sports Scholarship Award is valued at €2,000 and is held for one year with a possible extension after review. The Barry O’Brien Sports Scholarship Award is open to all pupils and past pupils of St Benildus College. A committee from the College will monitor the athletic performance and progress of the athlete. St Benildus College reserves the right not to award the scholarship in any given year.
