Team 1
Fionn, Jimmmy, Oscar Ozzy (Ardiles), Fionan, Sam, Chris.
Played in lashing rain and a strong wind Crosshaven got off to a slow start in first game conceding a couple of soft goals and went 3-2 down in first half helped by a couple of well taken goals by Ozzy Ardiles. As it was Fionns birthday the coaches suspect that too much bouncing in Airtastic and pizza before the game was the reason for such a treacherous and treasonous display so we let them off the hairdryer treatment. They are only 8 years old we suppose. Jimmy started to dominate midfield in second half and we were much the better team with a flurry of goals early in the second half from Fionn, Jimmy, Ozzy and Fionan and won comfortably in the end conceding a couple of late goals to eventually win 7-5. Let there be no panic.
The second game was a much closer affair. Losing at half time 1-0 to a fine Lakewood side, the boys had to dig or there would be no treats on the way home. Fionn became a man possessed and scored, then Jimmy, Ozzy and Chris put us 4-1 up. Pat went off to the bar for a pint at this stage was called back as a spirited fightback by Lakewood made it 4-4 with a couple of minutes to go. Cue the man of the moment: Ozzy Ardiles. 5-4. Jimmy then pounced from KO to run straight in on goal to make it 6-4 for a hard earned win. Rumours are Man U are looking to replace Lukaku with Ozzy this summer. Special mention has to go to Sam who had played very well outfield, went in goal and saved his team twice with a couple of minutes to go when they needed it most and also copped a mouthful of muck when diving at the feet of an oncoming striker but didnt faze him one bit.
Team 2
Hughie, Danial, Fergus, Peter, Diarmuid, William
Crosshaven started slowly because of the pizza effect, in the wind and rain, and were 2-0 down before we even knew it against a strong Lakewood side before coming from behind to make it 2-2, then 2-4. Goals from Diarmuid and William. Then Lakewood turned on the style coming back strongly to make it 4-4 with a few minutes to go. Crosshaven then hit the post a few times, one notable cracker from Peter but the final score ended 6-4 to Lakewood who scored two quick late goals. The boys ended the game not happy feeling they should have won but there was another match to come so heads up. Quick chat about tactics for the next game, Fortnite, parties and we go again.
Things we learned/remembered from the next game:
1- The only person Mo Salah has to worry about getting the golden boot is Diarmuid, not Harry Kane.
2- William scored the goal of the season so far, a screamer into the top left corner from almost the half way line
3- If you give Hughie the ball you are not going to get it off him in his striker role unless you knock him out but the chances are he will run over you before that happens. Great stuff.
4- Danial and Fergus once again showed their defensive class, chatting to themselves at the back and not even looking at the play, while at the same time having eyes at the back of their heads to anticipate any threats
5 – Thrilling when he gets on the ball Peter is also a potential goalkeeper saving the team with loads of great saves. A great display.
Crosshaven won the game 6-3 and the boys went home happy.
