The U15's now face an uphill battle to gain promotion

November 8, 2018

The U15's now face an uphill battle to gain promotion to the Premier Division after the top two teams in Division 1 met this morning in Camden. Crosshaven started the game without top scorer Diego Campos (hols), Simon Tabb & Christian Byrne & were dealt a further blow when Patrick Cotter pulled up during the warm up. Patrick's injury forced a major reshuffle but Crosshaven ultimately were creators of their own down fall conceding to Riverstown inside the opening two minutes when Conor Finn miss kicked into his own net. He was later to redeem himself with two super saves. The remainder of the first half saw Crosshaven work their way into the game against a very physical visiting side & for the final five minutes of the half the lads dominated without scoring. This set the tone for the second half with Crosshaven pinning Riverstown back for long periods but failing to turn dominance into goals. Rory O'Sullivan hit the crossbar while Lee Davies & Ethan Berkery Kelly both had legitimate penalty claims turned down. With ten minutes remaining Crosshaven switched formation with the introduction of Adam Maye upfront & the team reverting to 3 centre backs. As Crosshaven piled forward Riverstown caught them on the break twice in the last five minutes to put an undeserved look on the scoreline. This Crosshaven side have come along way in a short period & their brand of football will stand to them long term. The aim at the start of the season was to remain in Div 1 so to be pushing for promotion is a huge achievement. Credit must go to the lads who got the pitch ready after the rain Friday. Best for Crosshaven were Josh McCarthy, Max Harvey, Peter Lehane & Ethan Berkery Kelly.
